Our couple enjoy their neighborhood in the western suburbs of Chicago frequently sitting on their porch and waving to neighbors. The window-box planters add curb appeal to the traditional smaller front yard so often found in the area.
Instead of the usual dark hardwood floors, our client chose the visual impact of wood graining with dark and light pattern to provide contrast to the all-white kitchen. Stainless steel appliances, chrome bar stools, brushed chrome hardware on cabinets and industrial steel hanging pendant lights might seem cold were it not for the warm flooring. Colorful dinnerware and glasses will brighten meals while the overall aspect of this kitchen is clean, clean, clean and numerous cabinets allow appliances and groceries to be stored out of sight. A breakfast area with wall bench offers accessibility for dining. Another separate dining area is just down the hall and to the front a living area.
Unique stairs with a separate landing allow a picture gallery and break up the longer climb to upstairs bedrooms. One bath features a unique chevron pattern on the floor tile, echoed in the horizontal shower surround. Under the eaves the couple’s preteen daughter has a large room with built-in shelves, ample lighting and a large area for friends to gather and chat.
The master bedroom was painted in two contrasting shades, which deepen the room visually. The en suite master bath features a separate shower and tub. The couple chose a tiny, mosaic look tile treatment for the top half of the shower surround, while the lower half is done in a more traditional subway pattern. The 3/8” glass surround is custom, as are the twin vanities with brushed chrome faucets.
Finally, the basement remodel completed this large renovation, adding a family room with wet bar and additional powder room essential when entertaining during the big game. A basement laundry room features a sink for pretreating stains, large capacity washer and dryer, long counter area for folding laundry and multiple cabinets to store cleaning supplies.
