Our homeowner and his partner wanted a kitchen with style and convenience, allowing guests to participate in meal preparation or sit and enjoy appetizers and cocktails at the ample island while the couple prepare one of their famous gourmet dinners. A small nook provides a work area to peruse recipes or catch up on work with a laptop. Ample storage is provided yet concealed except for a center shelving unit where collectibles can be displayed. A linear butler’s pantry features a wine cooler, wet bar and loads of storage for glassware and holiday serving items. A cozy dining area just off the kitchen boasts a unique ultra modern chandelier chosen to compliment the circular glass dining table.
In the living area woodwork was kept dark in contrast to the dove gray walls, providing visual interest. Three front windows were left unadorned to let in light and add a spatial element to the traditional bungalow living area. The fireplace surround was tiled to bring a more modern feel to the room.
One bathroom has a unique horizontal tile pattern visually enlarging the area, while offering easy care and coordinating with the floor tile. This provides a cohesive clean and easy-care functional design. In a second bathroom traditional subway tiles provide a spa-like feel, while deep well basins set in the white vanity allow the homeowner to add colorful towels and accessories to add a personal touch. A third bathroom features contrasting mosaic tile on the shower pan, marbleized tile wall treatment in the shower and a dark vanity in contrast to the light-colored walls and floor.
The master bedroom is both expansive and easy care. Our homeowners opted to showcase the hardwood floors with one darker wall, offset by high gloss window casings and molding. Their choice of pale, neutral bedding and furniture provides a serene, relaxing environment, while not stark in appearance. The huge master walk-in closet has accessibility, ample drawers and divided hanging cubbies for both partners.
The complete basement remodel is clean and functional, showcasing a bar area with ample room for both furniture, a large screen TV or even a pool table. The couple often entertain their 3 small nieces and the finished basement provides a safe, light play area, while grownups converse upstairs. The addition of a small bathroom provides convenient cleanup areaafter messy craft projects . The oversized washer and dryer, stainless steel laundry sink and overhead storage cabinets make upkeep of towels and linens a breeze.
