Project Description

Location: Glenview, Illinois
Square Feet: 4,200
Year Completed: 2015

When our client said they wanted a remodel that was both functional and unique, our design team drew up plans that truly showcase the couple’s decorating style.

From the outside deck, alternate paving is interspersed with dark river rocks with seating area for 6, as well as a banquette for entertaining. You enter the lower level and are instantly drawn to the basement bar with wine cooler, ample cabinets and a large rack for storing vintage selections. Multiple overhead fixtures as well as wall sconces provide ambient lighting for a space with limited windows. There is a bathroom which boasts a sauna, shower, commode and vanity.

A second bath has a unique black quartz countertop, lattice inserts in the door and marbleized tile surrounding the oversized mirror. Bedroom one has multiple windows, diagonally laid hardwood floors and a great view of the backyard, a theme echoed throughout other bedrooms.

The dining room chandelier is suspended from an inset ceiling treatment, with molding framing the area. The kitchen, again featuring black cabinets, has custom molding accents on either end of the island which complement the bar stools. The tile backsplash behind the stove repeats the crosshatch design chosen throughout other areas of the home. A corner desk area adjacent to the small breakfast nook provides a space to peruse recipes or catch up on office matters.

In the living area inset book shelves display favorite pieces, while the dark overhead beams again play up the black and white theme. This large home has multiple living/family rooms. A functional fireplace with custom tile surround serves as a focal point to the neutral furnishings in one, while upstairs another smaller living area is perfect retreat away from busy family life.

The master bathroom with twin vanities boasts a unique soaking tub, perfect after a stressful day at work. A unique recessed hexagonal area on the ceiling adds a dramatic element to the large master bedroom.

Entering the house on the lower level is a mudroom with easy-care tile floor. Family members and guests find a lengthy bench perfect seating when removing boots or athletic gear. The laundry room has a deep sink for pre-treating garments, large capacity washer and dryer, suspension rod and multiple cabinets for cleaning supplies, providing a very streamlined space.

A small powder room off this area has stark black walls, tempered with a slightly floral variation of the X motif carried throughout the home. Lastly there is an unexpected study, perfect for homework, or perhaps an intimate gathering for a book club with comfy bench and stools.
